SUMMER SCOUTING

we scout smelling sweet and looking sweeter. give us a canoe, a campfire to sing around and a cabin full of our closest friends and we're happy campers.

archives 69 etat libre d´orange-- a summery scent that claims to "lure you with an indecent charm, an almost malevolent delicacy." and a darling suit to sweeten your summertime seduction.
summer of 1939 at camp eagle island
tent inspection

every scout needs a red rucksack to stow her sandwich, flashlight, canteen and 1978 collector's edition han solo figurine.

keep scouting.

GARDEN PARTY

a beverage-inspired post for you, kind reader. i give you the cucumber gimlet.

a forest scene and risk-taking, flanked by a cucumber gimlet and an ambiguous spring/summer line

what we'd drink: if you've never had a cucumber gimlet, then don't worry, you're not alone. but you haven't lived. that being said, this unsurpassed (in the opinion of EL CAPITÁN) summer drink is to be savored with good company, good music and a good amount of dry gin, preferably on a veranda.

what we'd wear:

right: credit where credit is due left: gathering breeze (is this breeze blowing any cash our way?)

what we appreciate:

summer greens highlight: wood slice walkway

don't be afraid to be inspired.

JUST ANOTHER MANLY MONDAY: UP IN THE WOODS

hunk on a stump-- because what is more manly than a sweaty man with his dog, a beard that could inspire folklore and that pipe?
we will live in a cabin and tell each other tall-tales.

i hope you smell like pine needles, coffee, soap and leather.

"chop your own wood and it will warm you twice." -henry ford
bacon--you don't have to bring it home, just build me a bookshelf.

MIXTAPE: BRAVERY

Get a playlist! Standalone player Get Ringtones

THE ARCADE FIRE - SPRAWL ii (MOUNTAINS BEYOND MOUNTAINS)
deceptively dark song. but it is brave to realize and maintain a longing for innocence and peace in a world that is invading its own borders.

SANTIGOLD - SHOVE IT
sometimes we don't need to be afraid to tell people how we feel. "so if you know another way/ you can't look the other way/ you know another way/ tell them so right to their face"

BEN KWELLER - RUN
running with anyone (literally, or figuratively) is a courageous series of steps.

SIMON & GARFUNKEL - AMERICA
a song of discovery and honesty; a brave journey.

RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN - I HAVE CONFIDENCE
it's what we grew up on. have some confidence in yourself, there's no reason not to. at least you're not a former nun who has to take care of a hardass's seven children.

ROBYN - INDESTRUCTIBLE
it was brave of us to put this song on this mixtape. does a power-love ballad really fit in here? we don't care. check out the acoustic version, please.

THE BLACK KEYS - SET YOU FREE
shoot. it takes some bravery to leave your man (for some douche in a band...?)

JOHNNY CASH - MAN IN BLACK
"but i'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back/ till things are brighter, i'm the man in black" analyze as applicable

MY MORNING JACKET - THE BEAR
it takes cajones (no, not of the bureau drawer variety) to admit mistakes and guilt. but there's still time for us all.

THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS - CHALLENGERS
at some point in your life you're going to have to be a challenger of the unknown. be brave.

THE NATIONAL - BABY, WE'LL BE FINE
"all we gotta do is be brave and be kind"

KANYE WEST FEATURING JUSTIN VERNON - LOST IN THE WORLD
aren't we all? take heart.

DON WILLIAMS AND EMMYLOU HARRIS - IF I NEEDED YOU
unfortunately, this is not the original artist singing. the real song is beautiful, listen to it here. it takes bravery to acknowledge weakness. we all need each other, and that sounds stupid, but come on, we do.

enjoy the first little chief mixtape. or else we might box your ears.
