hello again, kind readers!
the chiefs have returned from their holiday sabbaticals and i, for one, couldn't be happier. hopefully your holidays left you as cheery and imbibed as that whiskey-laced fruitcake from capote's memory.
and hey-- speaking of whiskey, you really ought to give these cherry-garnished, chest-warming cocktails a try. yes, it's "a modern, fresh twist on an old favorite," but trust me when i say it's worth the ice cubes.
- 2 ounces blended whiskey
- 3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon superfine sugar or simple syrup
- Slice of orange or lemon (or both) and a maraschino cherry
ok, now just shake (vigorously, mind you!) the whiskey, lemon juice, and sugar with ice, then strain over ice into a chilled cocktail glass, Old Fashioned glass, or highball glass. Garnish with an orange or lemon slice (or both) and a maraschino cherry.
while you're at it, why not dress the part and look a tad more g-l-a-m-o-r-o-u-s? (so sorry for the fergie reference, but it really couldn't be helped.)
of course, these drinks can be served and consumed in leggings and a swim cap if that suits your fancy, but sometimes fancy meets my fancy too. right, reba?
